Thermal Fusion Transfers

Canvas Application

Discover the vibrant and durable world of our Thermal Fusion Transfers, perfect for personalising all your canvas projects. These transfers are not your standard  iron-on transfers; they are a superior alternative that provides a high-quality finish with a transparent background

To ensure the best outcomes and longevity of your transfer, it is important to follow the instructions provided.

To maintain the quality and longevity of your Thermal Fusion Transfers, it is essential to store them properly. Keep them in a cool, dry place with consistent temperature and humidity levels to preserve the materials and extend their lifespan. When you receive your roll carefully cut each image from the roll. Use the included sheet of parchment paper to separate the images.

Airtight Containers: Keep your transfers in airtight containers to shield them from moisture and dust.

Humidity Control: Ensure the storage area is not overly humid, as excess moisture can damage the transfers before they're even applied.

Ideal Conditions: Maintain a cool, dry environment with temperatures ranging from 20-22°C.

Light Protection: Store transfers away from direct sunlight, keeping them in a shaded area, away from windows or heat-sensitive locations.

Clean and Dry Storage: Ensure that the storage areas are free from dust and moisture. Utilize the provided silica packs to help absorb excess moisture.

Flat Storage: To prevent bending or wrinkling, store transfers flat. Insert the provided parchment sheets between each transfer for added protection.

By following these guidelines, you can preserve the quality of your Thermal Fusion Transfer, ensuring they are in excellent condition when you're ready to use them.

Thermal Fusion Transfer

Iron: With temperature control settings.

Flat/Sturdy Object: When using a Thermal Fusion Transfer on a canvas board, it's essential to support the canvas from underneath. Providing support allows for consistent pressure distribution across the entire surface during the heat transfer process. If the canvas lacks proper support, it may flex or bow, resulting in uneven adhesion and possible distortion of the design. You should look for a flat, sturdy object that fits snugly under the canvas in the gap.

Parchment Paper: To protect the transfer during application.

Heat Mat / Towel  and a Hard Surface: We recommend a bench top or a table. Do not use a ironing board as some ironing boards have a metal mesh pattern under the padding, and this uneven surface can interfere with heat distribution and pressure.- If opting for a towel, ensure it is thick to provide adequate protection and stability during the transfer process.

Heat-Resistant Tape: For larger transfers this is recommended to secure the transfer in place.

Make sure the heat is evenly distributed across the entire design during each press. After each press, carefully lift the parchment paper to ensure your iron isn't too hot and that the film remains intact.Keep in mind that most irons have hotter centres, which can influence the timing. Therefore, don’t hesitate to press for longer than the suggested times, as long as you consistently monitor the transfer.

Canvas 135°C for 15 seconds

Denim 150°C for 20 seconds

Cotton 180°C for 20 seconds

50/50 Blend 170°C for 15  seconds

Tri-Blend 135°C for 15 seconds

Polyester 135°C for 10 seconds

Card-stock 140°C for 10 seconds -  Cotton/Blends setting on an iron

Wood 165°C for 15 seconds - Cotton/Linen setting on an iron.

Ceramic 170°C for 30 seconds - Cotton/Linen setting on an iron

Leather 165°C for 10  seconds - Cotton/Linen setting on an iron

Painted Surface : 135°C for 10  seconds - Polyester setting on an iron. Your paint must be 100% dry and cured, Chalk Paint is our recommendation.

Hard Surface:Choose a stable, hard surface for ironing to ensure the best results. A standard ironing board will not offer the necessary firmness, so consider using a sturdy table covered with a heat-resistant mat or towel.

Clean the Iron plate Ensure the iron plate is spotless to avoid any marks on the transfer.

Disable Steam: Turn off the steam function and empty any water from the iron to prevent moisture interfering with the transfer.

Pre Iron: To remove any moisture from the canvas, pre-iron it by placing some parchment paper on top and iron for 10 seconds.

Set The Temperature: Adjust the iron to the appropriate temperature for your material to ensure proper adhesion.

Providing support allows for consistent pressure distribution across the entire surface during the heat transfer process. Trim Excess Film:Carefully trim the excess film around the printed image.

Secure the Transfer: For larger transfers, use heat tape to hold it in position. This is typically available at hardware stores.

Apply the Transfer:Remove the white backing paper and position the transfer with the image facing up.

Protect with Parchment Paper: Place a sheet of parchment paper over the transfer and the surrounding area to protect it from direct heat.

Press and Lift: Press witth a med/firm pressure. Use a press and lift technique focusing on one section at a time. After each press, carefully lift the parchment paper to ensure your iron isn't too hot and that the film remains intact. Continue pressing and lifting until you have covered the entire transfer area. Keep in mind that most irons have hotter centres, which can influence the timing. Therefore, don’t hesitate to press for more/less than the suggested times, as long as you consistently monitor the transfer.

Avoid Sliding: Instead of sliding the iron, lift it and reposition it for each section. This prevents the transfer from shifting.

Focus On Edges: Pay extra attention to the edges to ensure good adhesion

Cooling Time: Wait until the transfer is cold to touch this could take 3-5 minutes  ( longer for ceramics)

Peel The Film: Pay attention to thin lines and small details: Thin lines and small details in your design are more fragile during peeling. Take extra care when peeling these areas to avoid tearing or lifting. Gently peel the film using a side-to-side, downward rolling motion. If the transfer starts to lift, place the parchment paper back on top, and apply additional heat for 8 sec. This step ensures that the design is fully adhered to the surface and remains intact, providing a smooth and seamless finish to your project.

This step is vital to firmly secure the transfer onto your material. To achieve a more permanent bond, soften the design, boost its durability, and remove any excess shine.

Protect: Once the film has been removed, cover the area with a sheet of parchment paper.

Press:Using a press-and-lift technique, apply medium pressure to each section of the image for the recommended duration specific to the material you are working with. Repeat this step as needed until you achieve the desired result

If you encounter excess adhesive around the image after the final press, you can easily remove it with these easy steps:

Protect Transfer: Place a clean sheet of parchment paper over the image and surrounding area.

Press with Iron: With the iron, gently press down on the area that has visible adhesive for 5 secs.

Peel: Carefully peel off the parchment paper while it is still warm using a side to side downwards rolling motion.

You can repeat this technique until you are satisfied with the result.
