  • Apply transfer to a light coloured background, white or cream gives the best results.
  • Cut around your transfer image leaving no more than 5mm/0.5cm of excess material. If there are several images on one sheet, cut each one out separately.
  • Painted surfaces must be fully dry and the paint has adequately cured. If you are using chalk paint, you may need to seal it first with a water-based sealer to ensure optimal adhesion.
  • Ensure the surface is smooth and clean, without any wax, oil, or dirt.
  • If you're new to this technique, try the practice transfer first to get a better understanding of the process.

To ensure that the transfer is well-prepared, it is important to cut around your transfer image leaving no more than 5mm/0.5cm of excess material. If there are several images on one sheet, cut each one out separately.

Positioning your transfer before removing the white backing sheet will ensure you have the placement you want.

Gently peel away the white protective sheet from the transfer image. Be careful when handling the exposed adhesive side to prevent any mishaps.

Next, use your finger to gently rub the transfer onto the surface to create initial adhesion.

Apply even pressure over the transfer with a rubbing stick, squeegee or a similar object - Yoiu may notice the translucent film turns white, this indicates that the image is releasing  to the surface.

To remove the translucent sheet from the image, start by placing one hand on the sheet. then gently separate it from one corner using your nail. Proceed with caution, ensuring that the image is securely adhered to the surface.

Rather than pulling the sheet straight up, use a downward rolling motion.

If the image does not detach easily, lay it back down and continue rubbing until it releases.

Once the translucent sheet is removed, use a clean, soft cloth to smooth out any areas that may need flattening.

To protect your transfer apply either a water based top coat/ lacquer or a clear acrylic spray.

If needed, use 800 grit sandpaper to gently smooth out the edges of your transfer.

A rub-on transfer is made up of an image printed on a special film that has an adhesive backing. They can be transferred onto a variety of different surfaces by rubbing the adhesive sheet.

The end result looks so professional, it appears as though the image was printed directly on to the surface.

Rub-on transfers are incredibly versatile and can be used on a variety of surfaces including:

Painted furniture, wood, metal, plastic, card stock, paper, glass and ceramic.

Before applying a rub-on transfer, it’s important to ensure that the painted surface is completely dry and cured. Make sure to clean the surface thoroughly in order to remove any dirt, grease, or wax. Depending on the type of paint used, you may also need to seal the surface prior to applying the transfer. This will help to ensure that the transfer adheres properly and looks its best. Remember, taking the time to properly prepare the surface will help to ensure a successful and long-lasting result.

Rub on transfers work best when applied to a llight coloured background such as white or cream.

Uses

Use them on home decor items, furniture, mirrors, trays, frames, vases, wood boxes, metal signs, bottles,  buckets, scrapbooks, tiles and so much more...

Rub-on transfers provide a simple yet effective way to enhance and personalse your DIY projects, offering endless possibilities for creativity and expression.

When it comes to transfers, they are typically regarded as semi-permanent. To increase their longevity, you can apply a clear water-based top coat over the transfer. This additional layer acts as a protective shield, safeguarding the design from wear and tear, and helping it endure over time.

No, they are not intended for outside use

To minimize the halo effect around the transfer when applied to a surface, trim closely around the image, leaving no more than 5mm (0.5cm) of excess material. If multiple images are present on a single sheet, cut each one out individually.

This is optional, but to enhance their durability, especially on high-use surfaces then we recommend you seal your rub on transfer with any off the following sealants :

  • Clear Acrylic Spray - A light mist of clear acrylic spray can be used to seal the transfer, providing a durable and invisible protective layer. Ensure even coverage by spraying from a distance and allowing it to dry thoroughly.
  • Water-Based Top Coat or Lacquer  A clear non yellowing top coat can be applied, to avoid brush marks use a sponge or a roller.

Upon receiving your order, you will find the purchased transfer, along with comprehensive instructions, a rubbing stick, and a practice transfer. The practice transfer is especially helpful for beginners who are new to using rub-on transfers, allowing you to get acquainted with the application process. This ensures you can achieve the desired results with ease and confidence.
